Don’t Hide Your Feet This Summer

Summer is here and after months of wearing socks and shoes your feet may not be summer ready and you may not be happy having them on show. Now is the time for some summer preparation and if you don’t have any underlying health issues, looking after your feet and getting them summer ready can be easy.

Here are a few easy steps you can take at home to get your feet in tip-top condition:

Soak
Soaking your feet for 10-20 minutes in warm water can be both relaxing and beneficial, it will soften any hard, dry skin that may have built up over the winter months. It can also help boost circulation, hydrate the skin and soothe the muscles in your feet and lower legs after long periods of walking or standing.

Moisturise
The skin on our feet has to be tougher than the rest of our bodies, so it’s best that you should treat your feet to a specific foot cream. The ideal foot cream is one that contains the ingredient Urea, as this is particularly good at helping dry, cracked skin. Apply twice a day, and maybe an extra thick layer last thing before bed if your feet need that extra bit of moisturising.

Toenail Care
Ingrown toenails can be painful and unsightly and are a main cause for concern as sandal season approaches. To help prevent ingrown toenails make sure you cut your nails straight across and not too short.

Sun Care
The skin on your feet is just as sensitive to sunburn as the rest of you. Make sure your SPF protection goes all over your feet, to the ends of your toes and not forgetting the soles of your feet either.

Even though these ideas will help you get your feet summer ready, it’s always a good idea to visit your podiatrist to give your feet a thorough look over and make sure they’re looking and feeling their best for the summer months.
